WHO is now inviting Governments, local authorities (city councils, provinces, districts and villages), communities, organizations (including schools, workplaces, faith-based groups) and civil society groups in the 22 Pacific island countries and areas (PICs) to submit applications for Healthy Islands Recognition 2021 under the ‘best practice’ and ‘best proposal’ categories.
The Healthy Islands Award scheme for health promotion projects started in 2011. It was intended to encourage PICs to innovate and demonstrate effective and efficient ways of promoting and protecting the health of their populations.
This year, considering the widespread impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Pacific, applications for the Best Practice category which have demonstrated a special focus on the health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic (including those from economic and social impacts) are strongly encouraged.
There will be two winners from each of the two categories. Winners will receive 10,000 USD to further develop the project or programme set out in the application.
