Application Deadline: Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021
Applications are accepted from Ph.D. candidates who are ABD and have completed a substantial portion of their dissertations. Professors on sabbatical are also welcome to apply. You must be concurrently enrolled/employed at your home university to receive a fellowship stipend.
Residential periods must be between three and nine months in duration beginning in Sept. 2022 or Jan. 2023. Fellowships may not be over the summer months (July-August). Stipends average $1,000/month for visiting professors and $2,500/month for pre-doctoral students and are determined by University of California general policies and funding availability.
Priority will be given to proposals that are policy-relevant, show a feasible plan of action and/or will contribute towards a better understanding of Mexico and/or U.S.-Mexico relations. Applications from Mexican scholars are particularly welcome.
Application Procedure
The center asks that applicants submit a one-page letter of intent describing the work you plan to complete while in residence. Letters are to be submitted to usmex-applications@ucsd.edu. The deadline for the letters is Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021. Applicants will be notified by Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021 if they are invited to submit a full application for a fellowship during the 2022-23 academic year.
For more information, visit usmex.ucsd.edu or contact Greg Mallinger at:Â gmallinger@ucsd.edu
For post-doctoral students who submit a letter of intent, we will select a small group to support in applying to UCMEXUS-CONACYT post-doc funding. If you are not eligible to apply to UCMEXUS-CONACYT, but are interested in applying to be a fellow, please contact Greg Mallinger at gmallinger@ucsd.edu to discuss. Note that the center has very limited funding for post-docs and a majority of their funding must come from external sources.
