The “Sustainability and Solidarity Summer Camp 2024” builds on the successful “Giving a Day of My Summer to the Forest” initiative, operating from June to September annually since 2007. It focuses on protecting the forests around Mount Olympus with two daily observation shifts monitoring forests from our watchtower. This crucial effort, supported by local fire brigades, has significantly reduced forest fire risks and raised environmental awareness. In 2024, we expand its impact by inviting a team of 20 young European participants for 6 weeks to work in various tasks, fostering environmental consciousness and community spirit. The activity, hosted by Kapnikos Stathmos Katerini, is coordinated by the Service National de la Jeunesse of Luxembourg. The project aims to create positive environmental and societal outcomes while fostering and developing interpersonal competencies in a communal living setting for the participants.
This year, the project expands its impact by transforming into a team volunteering activity for 20 young European participants. They will be organized into five groups, each responsible for various daily tasks, encompassing forest observation, meal preparation and service, facility maintenance, and involvement in other solidarity and social projects organized by KSK. “Sustainability and Solidarity Summer Camp 2024” promises to be a unique and impactful experience, fostering environmental consciousness and community spirit among participants while continuing the legacy of forest protection.
Requirements
- Candidates must be open to working and living intensively with others (especially regarding the accommodation in a mixed dormitory).
- They should be ready to roll up their sleeves and get dirty or tired when needed, demonstrating a willingness to fully engage in hands-on activities.
- Additionally, candidates should be comfortable with the warm summer temperatures typical of Greece.
- The program welcome individuals who are enthusiastic about making a positive impact on the environment while fostering successful teamwork.

- During the “Sustainability and Solidarity Summer Camp 2024,” volunteers stay in a shared dormitory, featuring 10 bunk beds for 20 participants with no gender separation in a typical summer camp atmosphere. Adjacent modern sanitary facilities, built in 2019, offer convenience and privacy, with separate men’s and women’s bathrooms and five individual shower rooms. Meals include buffet-style breakfasts with various options and traditional Greek dishes for lunch and dinner, prepared on-site by a professional cook, accommodating special dietary needs.
