UNU International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) Internship Programme 2024 for Young Scholars.

Application Deadline: 30 March 2024

UNU International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is the designated UN think tank on global health, serving as a policy translation hub for UN member states, agencies and programmes. It was established by a statute adopted by the Council of the United Nations University in December 2005.

The Institute generates policy-relevant analysis by applying a gender lens to inform the development, implementation and evaluation of health programmes. UNU-IIGH also supports the capacity development of local decision-makers and stakeholders to engage effectively with global health challenges within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

 Internship Programme

The UNU-IIGH internship programme aims to provide young scholars with an opportunity to learn more about the work of UNU-IIGH, as well as gain hands-on experience at a think tank within the UN system.

The internship programme also encourages young scholars to advance their own studies related to global health by contributing to the institute’s policy-relevant research projects.

Qualifications

Eligibility

Interns are recruited through a competitive application process, and should be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme at the time of application and during the internship. Undergraduate students in the final academic year and recent graduates who have completed a graduate or undergraduate degree programme within two years will also be considered if their research topics are linked to the work of UNU-IIGH.

  • has a demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and more specifically, in the work of the United Nations University.

Duration

The duration of the internship is 3 – 6 months, full time and to be physically based at the duty station.

Stipend

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UNU to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.

The monthly amount of the stipend will be determined for each duty station based on the stipend rates in effect. For Kuala Lumpur, the rate is MYR 1,000 per month. The stipend will be paid monthly.

*UNU-IIGH accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of interns or costs arising from accidents and illnesses incurred during the internship.
