Application Deadline: 21 April 2024.
The International Organization for Migration’s Diaspora 4 Climate Action project aims to raise the visibility of diasporas as key actors in climate action and create opportunities for collaboration between the diaspora in the UK, governments, and other key stakeholders in Bangladesh, Ghana, Jamaica, and Moldova. This initiative will contribute to government efforts to address the adverse impacts of climate change and promote sustainable development by strengthening diaspora engagement in priority sectors identified by national governments.
Diaspora Climate Champions will take part in an interactive workshop including sessions on understanding climate change impacts, national policy interventions, and strategic communications, as well as on strengthening leadership and resource mobilisation skills. The workshop will provide an opportunity to work with and learn from diaspora peers and build concrete action plans to support climate change mitigation and adaptation in countries of heritage.
After completing the workshop, selected Diaspora Climate Champions will have the opportunity to participate and share their proposals in official dialogues with governments and other national stakeholders, which will take place in Bangladesh, Ghana, Jamaica, and Moldova in the summer of 2024. These events will focus on identifying concrete actions to be taken in each country to enable and promote diaspora participation in climate action.
