YARN seeks to support students in their pursuit of an academic career. YARN does this through a 3-year mentorship program comprising:
- One-on-one mentorship: We pair mentees with subject-matter experts from top research institutions around the world, who meet with them regularly to provide guidance on academic projects and the academic path.
- Peer-to-peer networks: We strive to connect like-minded individuals at similar stages of their academic careers.
- Funding: We provide our mentees with a maximum of $1300 USD to help them achieve their short- and long-term research goals. In the past, we have reimbursed travel expenses, conference fees, research-related equipment, and graduate school application fees.
- Above this, mentees have access to tailored programming that includes topics such as “How to choose where to study”, “How to find and make use of an academic mentor”, and “How to formulate a research proposal”.
