CALL FOR APPLICATIONS – UNIDROIT 2022 RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS

UNIDROIT is currently accepting applications for the Institute’s 2022 Scholarship Programme.

A limited number of research scholarships (1000€ per month) will be granted to outstanding post-graduate (doctoral) law students, lawyers, academics and government officials to undertake two months of research in the UNIDROIT library (exceptionally, scholarships can also be granted for three months). Candidates that are unsuccessful in applying for a funded scholarship may be invited to undertake a research stay at UNIDROIT on an unfunded basis.

Eligibility

Candidates may apply for scholarships in relation to any of UNIDROIT’s work areas, existing instruments or current projects. To support the UNIDROIT Work Programme 2020 – 2022, special consideration will be given to applications for scholarships relating to the following topics (candidates may indicate their interest in working on matters related to more than one work area or project):

1. Secured Transactions

  1. Development of a Model Law on Factoring
  2. Development of a Model Law on Warehouse Receipts
  3. Implementation of the Cape Town Convention and its AircraftRailSpace and Mining, Agricultural and Construction (MAC) Protocols
  4. Development of possible future Protocols to the Cape Town Convention (Maritime Protocol and Renewable Energy Equipment Protocol)

2. Agricultural Law and Development

  1. Development of a guidance document on the Legal Structure of Agricultural Enterprises
  2. Development of a Model Law on Warehouse Receipts
  3. The Legal Guide on Agricultural Land Investment Contracts
  4. Implementation of the UNIDROIT/FAO/IFAD Legal Guide on Contract Farming

3. Law and Technology

  1. Development of a guidance document on Digital Assets and Private Law

4. Civil procedure and enforcement

  1. Development of Best Practices for Effective Enforcement

5. International Commercial Contracts:

  1. The application of the UNIDROIT Principles on International Commercial Contracts

6. Capital Markets and Bank Insolvency

  1. Development of harmonised rules for bank insolvencies

7. Cultural property:

  1. The 1995 Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects
  2. Private art collections

To apply for a scholarship, candidates must submit the following documents in English or French:

(i) a completed application form

(ii) a short cover letter

(iii) their Curriculum Vitae (CV)

(iv) reference letters

Candidates will be assessed on their cover letter, CV, research proposal, English/French proficiency and the value of their research to UNIDROIT.

Applications can be submitted to the Coordinator of the Scholarships and Internship Programme, Ms Laura Tikanvaara: l.tikanvaara@UNIDROIT.org. Applications are due by 30 September. Short-listing will be undertaken in October and November. Candidates will be informed of the outcome of their application in December.
