The DOE Omni Technology Alliance Internship Program 2022

The DOE Omni Technology Alliance Internship Program provides paid 10-week summer internships for up to three consecutive summers for talented undergraduate and graduate students in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and other related fields.

Interns will hold appointments at DOE national laboratories, Power Marketing Administrations (PMAs), plants, DOE Headquarters, and other approved sites.

Interns will receive hands-on experience in an immersive environment that provides them with an understanding of the mission, operations, and culture of DOE. Moreover, interns will be mentored by leading scientists, engineers, and other top professionals to address cybersecurity and information technology challenges while gaining valuable, real-world experience to complement their education and open opportunities for careers within the federal government.

Eligibility Requirements

You must meet the following requirements to be eligible for an internship:

• Be at least 18 years of age by June 1.
• Be a U.S. citizen. Selected candidates must provide suitable documentation to verify citizenship as requested.
• Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at an U.S. accredited institute of higher education or an institution approved by DOE, and be pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, information technology (IT), engineering or other IT-related field. You must provide proof of enrollment during the Winter/Spring academic term at the time of application. Candidates selected for an internship appointment will be required to provide proof of enrollment for Spring term.
• Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0/4.0.
• Be available to participate in the full 10-week appointment beginning on June 6, 2022. Exceptions to the proposed schedule may be considered on a case-by-case basis to accommodate candidate’s academic schedule.

Benefits

• Stipend: $750 per week (stipend will increase to $850 and $950 in the second and third year of participation, respectively)
• Travel: Travel reimbursement will be provided for inbound and outbound expenses up to $1,000 for participants who relocate more than fifty miles, one-way, from the assigned hosting site. Depending on your project assignment, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for travel and educational experiences which promote the educational goals of your appointment.
• Housing Allowance: A housing allowance of a minimum $240 per week will be provided for interns who relocate more than 50 miles from the appointment host location. You will be responsible for securing your own living space and determining your means of local transportation prior to arriving at the designated host site. Hosting facilities may provide assistance locating appropriate housing in the local area.
• Virtual Appointments: In response to the evolving situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic, appointments may be hosted virtually.

You will:

• Receive financial support including a stipend and travel allowances for summer internships.
• Have the opportunity for progressive and rotational internship assignments for three consecutive summers while pursuing a degree.
• Have the potential to obtain a security clearance and postgraduate employment.
• Participate in and contribute to DOE mission-related activities under the guidance of cyber security and information technology experts and/or DOE staff.
• Learn and collaborate with cybersecurity and information technology experts at DOE-approved facilities working to address the nation’s most critical cybersecurity challenges, and establish long-term relationships between yourself, cyber and IT experts, and DOE and/or contractor staff.
• Explore a federal career with DOE and gain a competitive advantage as you apply your education, talent, and skills in a variety of setting across the entire DOE complex.
