New Generation Europe Foundation Academy Fellowship 2024

Application Deadline: 15 July 2024

Applications are now open for the 2024 New Generation Europe Foundation Academy Fellowship. Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, is a world leading, independent policy institute and a trusted forum for debate and dialogue. Based in London, for more than 100 years our research and ideas have helped people to understand a rapidly changing world. As a global think tank, our mission is to help governments and societies build a sustainably secure, prosperous and just world. We pursue this mission through dialogue, analysis and delivering solutions-based ideas.

Academy Fellowships

In a joint initiative with New Generation Europe Foundation, the Academy is looking to host a fellow for 10 months from October 2024 to July 2025.

The fellowship is open to citizens of Russia who want to work with the Russia and Eurasia Programme. The programme offers candidates at the early-to-mid-stage of their career the opportunity to spend ten months at Chatham House working with a research programme and developing their leadership skills and thematic knowledge.

Fellows are strongly encouraged to consider the overall Chatham House mission, values and goals, align their proposal with the work and focus of the research programmes listed, and develop research proposals that seek to directly contribute to the topics listed:

Russia and Eurasia Programme

  • What changes will be experienced by the Russian state, political elites and society as a result of Russia’s war on Ukraine?
  • How is the war likely to impact key systemic forces inside Russia? How might they influence the eventual succession to Putin?
  • How is the war likely to impact the regime’s domestic and foreign policy capabilities?
  • What effect is the war having on Russia’s regional cohesion?
  • The Russian economy of the future: in a post-war, decarbonizing world, what can it offer?
  • How can Russians work towards a policy vision for a better-governed Russia that is at peace with itself and its neighbours?
  • Can the exiled, non-systemic opposition play a useful role in bringing change and/or in governing a future Russia?

Selection criteria

The successful applicant will:

  • Meet nationality criteria (open to citizens of Russia who want to work with the Russia and Eurasia Programme; applications will also be accepted from applicants holding dual nationality which includes Russia);
  • Have the relevant background experience, including experience in the field of the proposed research, as demonstrated through a CV
  • Have experience conducting independent research and hold an undergraduate/postgraduate level qualification (or have equivalent professional training or experience in a relevant area)
  • Have proven leadership experience or potential
  • Show commitment to the Chatham House mission, goals and values and to identifying evidence-based solutions to some of the world’s most pressing international challenges
  • Be able to communicate how the fellowship will enable them to create positive impact, in line with the Chatham House mission and overarching purpose of Academy Fellowships (outlined above)
  • Show motivation to undertake the fellowship, meet all fellowship deliverables, and take full advantage of the networks, events and opportunities offered at Chatham House
  • Demonstrate proficiency in speaking English
