IRE21 fellowships are available for the following communities:
- Journalists and students working outside the U.S.
- Women, of modest means, who are students or early-career journalists
- Journalists, educators and students of color
- U.S.-based early-career TV journalists
- U.S.-based journalists with demonstrated interested in financial investigative journalism
- U.S.-based journalists working for a newspaper with a Sunday circulation of under 50,000
- U.S.-based journalists and independent journalists
- Students and early-career journalists from Illinois
- Journalism students in Arkansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma or Louisiana
Fellowships include:
- Complimentary IRE membership/renewal ($25-70)
- Complimentary conference registration ($50-200)
All recipients are required to meet IRE’s membership standards: Someone substantially engaged in news gathering, presentation or production; a student pursuing a degree or someone engaged full-time in research or teaching in the field of journalism.
IRE hopes to notify applicants about the status of their applications within about 20 business days.
Application requires: resume/CV/LinkedIn profile, college transcript (for students).
Application encourages: one to two clips of investigative or journalistic work.
