Application Deadline: 17 June 2022.
About Opportunity

Gardiner Dairy Foundation partners with Nuffield Australia to offer a Nuffield Farming Scholarship to a Victorian dairy farmer each year. The Nuffield scholarship is an opportunity for a Victorian dairy farmer to investigate an agricultural topic of their choice, and to innovate on their own farms and within their dairy communities. Scholars also experience agriculture from a global perspective and become members of a formidable, international network of Nuffield alumni, creating life-long opportunities for further learning and friendship.

This initiative is part of Gardiner’s commitment to building industry leadership and capability to ensure that the industry continues to advance leadership, knowledge and skills for long-term success.

Successful applicants spend a total of 14 weeks travelling the world over two years – including 4 weeks of group travel through the global powerhouses of agriculture, in China, India, Brazil, USA, Canada, UK and Europe. Scholars then travel for a further 10 weeks by themselves, tapping into Nuffield’s global network of farming scholars to drill down into a research topic of interest to them and of value to the industry.

Application Procedure

  • National Conference is a chance to meet the Nuffield network and agribusiness leaders, receive a program briefing and be formally awarded the scholarship. Usually held in late-October
  • Contemporary Scholars Conference (CSC) is a week-long program for all newly-selected scholars from around the world. Scholars build networks and consider international trade and policy issues affecting agriculture. It is a truly cultural and ambassadorial experience where leadership skills are enhanced
  • Global Focus Program (GFP) offers a four-week, group travel experience spent in various countries across the world. Scholars select one GFP and investigate agricultural marketing, trade, environmental issues and experience social and cultural aspects of each region
  • Individual Study enables scholars to travel to countries of choice to study their chosen topic
  • Written and verbal reporting is a requirement of the scholarship and these are completed following the research. Reports are due in writing as well as verbally at the National Conference
