About Opportunity

QBE AcceliCITY is one of the Top 5 GovTech accelerators in the world. It serves as a runway for emerging urban solution providers while simultaneously reducing the risk and cost of innovation for cities.

Throughout the course of the program, teams participate in a business-to-government focused web-based curriculum, direct interaction with city leaders, free access to their virtual LaunchPad 11 global community, and an intensive Boot Camp led by international business, government, and smart city leaders. QBE AcceliCITY webinars and workshops are designed to help companies navigate the nuanced challenges of working with governments, distinguish and convey venture value, and network within an expansive Smart and Resilient City ecosystem. The program culminates with pitch events where $150,000 in city pilot opportunities are awarded.

Eligibility

Applications are judged primarily on the extent of the impact that the solution will
have on society, the seriousness of the challenge it solves, and the innovative nature
of the solution. Additional considerations are made regarding traditional startup
evaluation areas such as the general business model and market opportunity.

Smart Challenge Track: Urban Food – Paid Pilot

  • The City of Gainesville is looking to obtain pilot proposals for tech food-related projects that promote innovation and highlight the value and efficient management of food as a resource. While a broad scope of ‘food system innovation’ proposals will be considered, pilots for reducing food waste are highly desired. Pilots can address different aspects of food and its associated impacts over the entire life cycle, for example, innovative ways to grow food, source reduction, value-add transformations, packaging and preservation to consumption, recovery, and final disposal.
  • The pilot shall support the City in one or more “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” concepts on the food topic. This project may focus on providing education on this subject to benefit producers, businesses, consumers and/or food donation recipient organizations; and/or operationalization such as logistics for reducing food waste, food recovery, food packaging, food distribution, conserving recovered food, food dehydration, and on-site composting of wasted food.
